Zimbabwe continues to fall down World Rankings

Zimbabwe continues to go down in the world rankings. As per the recent rankings, they are out of 100.

The lowest position that Zimbabwe has ever been to is no. 107. But, their current situation suggests that they are going to slip down even further than that this time around.

Zimbabwe has had a horrible run in the qualifiers of the Africa Cup. They have fired their manager as a consequence of that and have just begun to rebuild under the new man in charge Callisto Pasuwo. They are bound to suffer some more defeats in future with young and inexperienced players in their ranks.

At the start of 2014, it seemed Zimbabwe football was going alright as they climbed up and reached at the 90th position in the first quarter of the year, but, ever since, it has been a downward curve for the Warriors.

As far as the association in Zimbabwe is concerned, it has its own problems.

Because of the high debt that the Zifa is finding itself under right now, the future of football is the nation appears to be very gloomy.

There has been huge financial pressure on the bosses of the association right now. So, it’s hard for them to even think about the steps that they need to take in order to make sure that the Warriors start winning at the international level in all age groups.

When Cuthbert Dube had been elected as the head of Zifa again in March, he had said in his speech that he would work strategically and do everything that’s possible for the good of the game in Zimbabwe.

But, a lot of time has gone by and nothing has been done by Dube & company in that regard.

Gorowa Future At Risk

The coach who was assigned with the task of coaching the Zimbabwe national football team was Ian Gorowa as he took charge of the squad back in July of 2013 but even though it still has not even been a year since his designation; his future at the team is at risk.

Ian Gorowa has not submitted the reports that the High Performance Committee requested and now it seems like the Committee wants to end their relationship with the 41 year old tactician. Zimbabwe could not make their way to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations after failing to qualify and the HPC wants to see how the squad is doing with the documents they asked for but Ian Gorowa has not given it to the panel.

The chairman of the High Performance Committee John Phiri stated: “We resolved as the HPC to close the chapter on Gorowa. We don’t want to continue being involved in this issue. We received only two reports. There were no other reports for the Chan tournament, the friendly matches against Malawi and South Africa and the 2015 African Cup of Nations first leg against Tanzania. We have recommended the Zifa board to take a decision on the matter. We are now waiting for the Zifa board to make a decision.”

Gorowa has already stated that he does not feel like he needs to send reports back to the Committee and now his future in charge of the club will depend on the decision that the Zifa board decide on making but it does not seem like his future is bright as he is constantly being linked with a move away from the African side.

Gorowa Makes It Clear That He Wishes To Stay

The manager of the Zimbabwe national football team, Ian Gorowa, has made it clear he is not going to leave his post.

Zimbabwe suffered a humiliating loss against Tanzania a few days ago with which they got out of the race of the Nations Cup finals qualification.

The fans of the Zimbabwe team were hugely disappointed after that game and rightly so. They have every right to be disappointed as their team has not given them a single moment of joy in the last 5 years or so.

Zimbabwe’s journey in the World Cup qualifying tournament was disastrous too. They couldn’t secure a victory in any of the 6 matches that they played and ended up at the last position in their group.

After that loss against Tanzania, there had been talks that Gorowa might consider to resign, but, the 42-year Old denied the possibility of that happening.

Speaking to the reporters yesterday, Gorowa said that losing the Tanzania game was gutting for him too. It left him totally devastated, but, he decided to be practical and not to take any decision while being emotional.

The Zimbabwe boss said, “It was very difficult to take, that result (against Tanzania). We let a lot of people down there and I want to convey my sincere apologies to them. I want to say sorry to the reporters as well who were waiting for me there and I didn’t come. I hope people understand how terrible I was feeling at that point of time.”

“As far as my future with Zimbabwe football is concerned, the only thing I want to say is that it was very easy for a manager to leave it all and part ways with the association after that defeat, but, I didn’t do that. My love for the nation didn’t let me do that. I am determined to bring Zimbabwe out of this situation.”

INTEGRATION IS KEY

Zimbabwe’s national team manager Ian Gorowa will have the opportunity to integrate home and foreign-based players when his team take on Malawi in a friendly match. This will be a great opportunity to improve the team ahead of the 2015 African nations cup qualifiers. Zimbabwe have been struggling to deal with politics within the country and it has taken its toll on the national team as well. Even though they suffered only two defeats after the recent African nations cup Championship, many reckon that Africa still has a long way to go before it sees the best out of Zimbabwe.

Gorowa has named a team that will see six foreign players be part of the squad. Apart from the friendly against South Africa, which is Zimbabwe lost 2-1, Gorowa has not had the opportunity to field foreign players on a regular basis. These foreign based players provide a lot of quality to the team given that they are regularly competing against some of the best in the world. Gorowa has urged the best players from Zimbabwe to grab the opportunity to play abroad especially in Europe. Zifa communications manager, Xolisani Gwesela, says that the nation will be looking to use this friendly to improve ahead of the 2015 African nations cup qualifiers.

“We usually place lot of importance in such matches for obvious reasons. The first is that the coach has a number of players he wants to look at and these players need to be exposed at the international stage. Secondly we want our national team to be a major force to reckon with in the SADC region and in the whole of Africa. So, funds permitting and depending on the logistics, we will take every opportunity to play these friendly internationals,” said Gwesela.

Zimbabwe later managed a 4-1 win over Malawi in the friendly match.
